Maintaining Your Resilient Tile Floors |
|
||||||
You spent many long hard hours working on your resilient tile floors, stripping and waxing and now that you have them in great shape, looking good, you want to keep them that way.
What do you need to do in order to maintain your resilient tile floors to keep them looking new? If your budget is limited, there are certain things you can do to keep the shine and keep your floors clean.
Before we look at sweeping, mopping and autoscrubbing, you need to think about keeping the dirt out of your facility. Matting is number one on the list to maintaining the appearance of your floors. If you implement a good matting program, you can keep the dirt out therefore reducing the wear on your freshly finished floors.
Now let us look at a profile of a facility with restrictive maintenance budgets. You have a lack of floor equipment and personnel which leaves little time to do anything more than dust mop, spot mop and damp mop. Autoscrubbers are normally not used in these facilities and infrequent spray buffing may be occurring, but only in high traffic areas.
This would be your equipment requirements to maintain your floors. You will need a 175 and a 1500-rpm machine with an autoscrubber being optional. Spray buffing should occur at least once per week.
A major part of your weekly maintenance program is damp mopping or autoscrubbing if available. Soil and traffic loads are different for every facility and every entrance to the building. With appearance, sanitation, safety, and protection in mind, the following minimal frequencies are recommended:
As your resilient tile floors do begin to show wear paths you will need to scrub and re-coat which will bring them back to the new look you want. A floor maintenance program is not difficult to establish but if you want the results of a great looking floor, you must follow a regular maintenance schedule.
