Cleaning With Microfiber - What Is Microfiber

Cleaning With Microfiber

Today’s cleaning techniques and products have changed from the days of the old feather duster, cotton mops and dust mops. With the emphasis being on green, cleaning with microfiber makes it the green product of choice for better cleaning.

What Is Microfiber?

Microfiber comes in a variety of naps, sizes, weights and weaves for different applications. Microfiber products are often a blend of polyester and microfiber polymer, and blends vary.

Microfiber cleaning materials are a blend of microscopic polyester and polyamide fibers, which are split in such a way as to create microscopic “hooks” which act as claws that scrape up and hold dust, dirt, and grime. They are 1/16 the thickness of a human hair and can hold six times their weight in water.

So just what makes cleaning with microfiber better than using traditional type cleaning products? In a nutshell, they clean better, reduce the amount of cleaning chemicals required and last longer than traditional products. Though they may have an initial higher price, the overall cost of cleaning is reduced.

Prevent Cross Contamination

Cleaning with microfiber mops will reduce the cross contamination by preventing the spread of germs from one room to another as in a hospital situation. Simply load your chemical bucket and place the mops into it using one per room. Once the room is completely mopped, place the used one in the discard bucket, which will be washed, and ready to use again.

How Does Microfiber Clean

Microfiber dusters are also much better at capturing dust than the traditional feather dusters. The dust particles have a negative charge while the microfibers are positively charged therefore, they will attract the dust to them as do the opposite poles of a magnet attract each other.

If you have not started cleaning with microfiber I suggest you take a closer look at the products and put some into use in your facility or home. Once you use them for just a short time you will better understand their value and the benefits, a cleaner environment in which you work and live.
